What will NZ’s workforce look like in 20 years?
The world we live in is changing and is expected to change at a greater rate over the next 20 years. What does this mean for your sector and workforce? What are the key drivers of these changes?
Automation and people continuing to work, even in “retirement”, are megatrends often mentioned by people when discussing how our workforce will be different in the future. There are, however, a range of other key megatrends that are mentioned less often, including changes to the education landscape and an increasingly multicultural workforce. These megatrends will reshape our workforce over the next 20 years.
Megatrends are global, sustained, and macro-economic forces that impact business, economy, society, cultures, and personal lives and defines our future world and its increasing pace of change. The impacts of megatrends on our workforce and sectors, many of which are large, often occur beyond typical forecast periods and the overall likely affects are typically not fully discussed.
At Infometrics we recognise the lack of information on the impacts of key megatrends can be frustrating for strategists and workforce planners. As a result, over the past few months our chief forecaster, Gareth Kiernan, has been putting together our take on how several megatrends will shape the NZ workforce.
On 26 June, Infometrics will release our take on key megatrends likely to affect the NZ and specific sectors at the Infometrics sponsored Industry Training Federation conference. The theme of this conference is ‘Skills in a Changing World', which will bring together thought leaders from Government, industry, and the education system to consider these themes at global, national, local, and workplace levels.
Our next newsletter in late June will focus on the megatrends report and some of the key themes.
